Hosanna Fox, Founder & OWNER

Hosanna has worked in the non-profit sector for 24 years, including five years in humanitarian complex emergency environments and five years as a consultant for non-profit organizations working in the humanitarian sector. She previously worked for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in DRC, Nigeria and South Sudan in a humanitarian affairs capacity. She has since worked in Nigeria, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Iraq and Jordan delivering trainings and conducting research on humanitarian topics.

Previous positions include Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s School for International and Public Affairs in the Human Rights and Humanitarian Policy concentration and Research Associate at Humanitarian Outcomes.

Her current work focuses on organizational, team and individual support as well as process design, retreat design and facilitation, and advocacy and communications support. Hosanna loves working with clients to create spaces that are both efficient and enjoyable.

Hosanna holds a BA in International Affairs from American University of Paris, an MA in Human Rights Law from the School of Oriental and African Sciences and a Diploma in French Language and Culture from the Sorbonne. She is fluent in French.

Molly Dow, MEDIA Associate

Molly has worked in the nonprofit sector for more than seven years in areas ranging from the arts and education to social services and political advocacy, with a focus on program management and communications. Recent projects have included working on New York State immigration issues and working with the New York City Council.

Molly also brings a background in research and advocacy to Hively as well as training in community partnerships with Stanford University’s Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity. She has worked as a Creative Dissent Fellow with political artist Tania Bruguera in exploring how art can be used as a tool for social and political change, particularly to address Bay Area housing issues. Molly has also also worked in Chile and Kenya. She holds a BA in International Relations with a minor in Music from Tufts University and is currently a Master’s of Public Administration candidate at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, concentrating in urban and social policy.

Lauren Hutton, Senior Associate

Lauren Hutton is a political analyst and humanitarian intervention practitioner with more than a decade of experience working in conflict-affected states. She has worked as a researcher, policy advisor and strategic consultant for think tanks, donors, UN agencies, INGOs and private sector practitioners implementing humanitarian and development projects. Lauren has worked primarily in sub-Saharan Africa with a focus on the greater Horn of Africa region. She works as a communications consultant, researcher and strategic facilitator. Lauren is also the editor of Stability: International Journal of Security & Development, an open-source, non-profit journal on international security and development.

Julia Imbriaco, OPERATIONS Associate

Julia brings over seven years of project management and research experience to Hively. She is a Masters of Public Administration degree candidate at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, concentrating on Humanitarian Policy. Her research, augmented by recent visits to refugee camps in Greece and Lebanon,  focuses on the intersection of displacement and education in emergencies in the Mediterranean region. She is a board member and the treasurer of Columbia's Migration Working Group.

Prior to joining Hively, Julia held a number of roles across the public and private sectors at organizations including the Smithsonian Institution, the Council on Foreign Relations, The Museum of Modern Art, New York City Emergency Management, in nonprofit management consulting, and in the active travel industry, where she led cycling tours in southern and central France. Julia is fluent in French and received her bachelor's degree in French and European Studies at American University's School of International Service. When she is not working or studying, Julia enjoys leading cycling tours of her neighborhood, Harlem.

ARIF KHAN, SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Arif has worked for small non-profits, large international NGOs, private sector organizations, public agencies and a large intergovernmental organization. He has also launched three non-profit organizations and one hospitality business.

He has worked for 10 years in the humanitarian sector: eight years in the field managing  projects for non-profit organizations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and two years coordinating partnerships for UN-OCHA in New York. He has successfully raised and managed millions of dollars of humanitarian aid, planned and managed temporary settlements, and implemented relief and recovery projects that supported hundreds of thousands of people affected by natural disasters and conflicts in Kenya, Syria, Indonesia, Somalia, Yemen, Chad, Pakistan, Lebanon, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. He has also designed and delivered trainings for local humanitarian actors in Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Niger, Pakistan, Lebanon, and Jordan

In the US, he managed initiatives to improve disaster resilience, increase urban green space, and build social capital. He founded Depave, an award-winning non-profit that works with communities to transform unused parking lots into gardens. He also spearheaded the development of the first demonstration  food garden on international territory, at the UN Headquarters in New York.

He recently was awarded the Loeb Fellowship at Harvard University, where he spent a year exploring  new approaches to civic engagement, leadership, and innovation.  While there, he also received funding for a sustainability initiative at Harvard, and won a ‘maker’ competition at MIT.

His work focuses on organizational support and individual coaching, team dynamics, innovation, strategic planning, negotiation and humanitarian program design.

Arif holds a BS in Human Factors Engineering, and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning.

Pablo Mayrgundter, Senior Associate

Pablo is an entrepreneur and software engineer, with experience in technology innovation for humanitarian aid.  He worked for 12 years at Google and co-founded Google.org's Crisis Response team, including extensive work in the Haiti earthquake and cholera epidemic responses, which provided technical support for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) in mapping the cholera epidemic and providing water sanitation and health services.

Pablo has spoken about his work in Haiti and technology innovations in humanitarian aid at Columbia University, the New York Academy of Medicine and US Northern Command (NORTHCOM) and represented Google on the United States Institute of Peace Roundtable on Technology, Science and Peacebuilding.

His other projects include Google Assistant, a natural language speech interface, Realtime Search (bringing breaking news to search results in real-time) and the open-source Nomulus Domain Registry which created a hundred new top-level domains like .app, .google and .meme.  Before Google, Pablo co-founded successful companies in machine Learning & cloud Computing.  Pablo studied Computer Science at Carnegie-Mellon University.

Dina Parmer, SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Dina has over 11 years of field experience in the humanitarian aid sector working in complex emergency contexts. Her work has taken her to Mozambique, South Africa, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, north east Nigeria, Syria region, Turkey and Bangladesh. She has held a range of roles, including providing senior leadership to several NGO Fora; increasing the voice of NGOs and affected populations in humanitarian decision-making structures; managing and leading multi-sector humanitarian assistance, protection, and peace-building programmes; leading evidence based policy and advocacy efforts; conducting conflict analysis to support more principled action; and designing and implementing humanitarian access strategies. Thematic areas of focus have been protection civilians, international humanitarian law and ethics, coordination of humanitarian action, and conflict mitigation and prevention.

Dina holds a BA in History, Politics and Philosophy from the University of York in the United Kingdom; a MscEcon in International Politics, with International Human Rights Law and Normative Ethics concentration from University of Wales, Aberystwyth. She is currently working towards additional post-graduate work on global public health with a focus on psychology. Dina has also contributed to papers and publications on humanitarian and conflict policy topics.

Jennifer Tsai, Senior Associate

Jennifer has worked in the non-profit sector for 18 years. Her work focuses on the prevention of atrocities, promotion of human rights, transitional justice, community and individual resilience, governance, access to justice, and capacity building and organizational support in fragile and developing environments. She previously worked for the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative, where she provided substantive direction, support and expertise to a global portfolio to promote human rights in conflict-affected countries. She has worked with international institutions such as the United Nations and local civil society organizations throughout the world, including in Indonesia, Philippines, China, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Nigeria, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Jordan, Iran and Armenia. Jennifer has also worked at small non-profits, public agencies and private sector organizations.

Jennifer has designed and delivered trainings and briefings about human rights and humanitarian law issues and combined high-quality research and targeted advocacy addressing human rights-humanitarian priorities to increase support for accountability within the international community.

Jennifer holds a J.D. from Cornell University Law School and a B.A. from Columbia College, Columbia University.

David Makowski, Owner, c4
Executive Coach & Change Leadership Consultant

David started his professional career in the U.S. Army as a Human Intelligence Specialist, which established an initial foundation and interest in human motivation, behavior, personality and decision-making. He went on to work for multiple Federal agencies in the intelligence field, combining to form a 28 year career in Federal service. During this time David had the opportunity to work with a diverse community which included the Ministry of Defense in multiple Central Asian countries and U.S. company C-suite leadership on issues of cooperation, collaboration and change management.

In forming c4 Executive Coaching and Consulting, David combined his previous experience with his passion for working with people in bringing about personal, professional and organizational change and growth. This coupled with his interest in and work with emotional intelligence, mindfulness and meditation practices, provides for an eclectically strong foundation for his coaching and consulting work. At the core of David’s work is an approach that takes into account the uniqueness of every individual and their specific circumstances as well as the interconnectedness of everything within a system.

David holds a graduate degree in Organizational Psychology and Change Leadership from Columbia University’s Teachers College and an Executive Coaching certification from Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business.
